Yogurt, so spelled in American English, is a mispronunciation and loanword of the Turkish yoğurt, which sounds something like yort or yo-urt. The other English spelling, yoghurt, appears exclusively in British English and is the only acceptable non-dominant variant of yogurt. Nonetheless, due to its overwhelming dominance, prefer yogurt unless writing for an editor who insists otherwise.
