Madam

In English, the word is spelled as shown in the title, not like the French spelling, madame. When referring to a group of women, madam takes the plural mesdames, as in French (see mr., mrs. or mr, mrs), though the plural may seem stilted or pretentious to some ears. When referring to brothel owners, prefer the plural madams.
