Wangle or Wrangle

Wangle means to obtain by persuading others or by manipulating events; wrangle means to have a dispute or argument, usually one that’s long and complicated (and its noun form refers to the dispute or argument). Writers increasingly confuse wrangle for wangle, a mistake perhaps bolstered by the western term wrangler, a person in charge of horses or livestock. Whatever the reason, avoid misusing either word in place of the other.
